Falls Creek access to close amid severe weather warning
BOGONG High Plains Road will be temporarily closed to all vehicles in both directions between Mount Beauty and Falls Creek from 9pm tonight due to forecast severe weather.
The Bureau of Meteorology expects significant rainfall across much of Victoria’s alpine districts from tomorrow and into Friday.
To ensure the safety of motorists, locals and tourists, Major Road Projects Victoria in coordination with emergency services on advice from the Bureau, will enact a temporary closure of the Bogong High Plains Road at Bogong Village from 9pm tonight.
The decision to temporarily close Bogong High Plains Road is made in agreement with emergency services and other key stakeholders.
This closure will be in place until crews are able to assess and secure the site and ensure it is safe for motorists to use.
Geotechnical specialists will attend the site on Thursday morning to secure the site and determine when the road will reopen to motorists.
Any resident or visitor currently within the vicinity of the Falls Creek Alpine Resort is advised to consider their travel plans over the coming days.
People wanting to leave the Falls Creek Alpine Resort should do so by 7pm to ensure they are beyond Bogong Village before the road closure is in place.
Major Road Projects program director Dipal Sorathia said it was important to preserve the safety of motorists.
“We’re temporarily closing Bogong High Plains Road to ensure the safety of motorists, the local community and tourists due to a forecast severe weather event,” he said.
