Soccer Laduma can confirm that north African giants Zamalek are still a fairly long way from agreeing a new deal for Egypt international Mohamed Awad.

The Zamalek No. 1 is currently in the midst of negotiations as he looks to extend his four-year stay at the Cairo-based outfit.
The 30-year-old joined the five-time CAF Champions League winners in 2019, and has since helped the Egyptian juggernauts win four league and cup titles.
Awad is keeping a clean sheet almost every other match for the White Knights, with 36 in the 73 appearances he has made to date for the reigning Egyptian Premier League champions.
Even in a season when the side has perhaps struggled, currently languishing in fourth place, the shot-stopper has managed to shut the opposition out 12 times out of 23 matches across all competitions.
A source close to the deal has revealed that talks have been ongoing since the beginning of the season, but the two parties are still some way from finalising an extension, with the club and the player’s representatives yet to agree a wage package that suits all parties.
Awad is rumoured to be among the highest earners on the African continent, raking in a reported $1 million (R19.5 million) a season with the White Knights, but having failed to start a match for Zamalek since their 2-0 defeat to Esperance de Tunis in the Champions League in February, the five-time African champions look reluctant to keep their veteran keeper on such high wages.

With Awad’s current deal set to expire in 2024, there will likely be significant interest in north Africa and the Middle East for his services, but the same source ensured Soccer Laduma that the Ismailia-born goalkeeper wants to stay at the Cairo International Stadium.
