The pool level at Euston weir is temporarily being raised before being drawn down again to complete repair works to minor damage sustained during recent flooding.
Mildura Regional Manager, Andrew Kremor said the planned repair works posed no concern to community or the environment.
“We lowered the weir pool by 1.3m and the full extent of the damage is now clear. Repair work will commence in early July, and in the meantime, we will partially refill the pool to assist pumpers and boat users.”
“We recommend pumpers take this opportunity to refill their tanks and storages ahead of the pool being lowered again in late June and the repairs being undertaken in early July.
“Exact levels will depend on conditions at the time, however it is anticipated that the pool will be lowered to around 46.0 m AHD to complete the work, which is approximately 30 cm lower than the level the pool reached while conducting the investigations.”
Anyone out on a boat is reminded to be conscious that the river upstream of the weir is significantly lower than usual.
“Access through Lock 15 will continue to be available through this period.”
“There may also be some temporary impacts for local landholders while the pool is lowered with some pumps currently sitting out of the water.
“We appreciate the patience of local community who may be impacted by the lower river level during this time.”
The MDBA works in cooperation with the Basin states to ensure the ongoing maintenance and improvement of weirs and locks along the River Murray.
The MDBA has collaborated with the local community in preparation for these repairs and will issue further advice as plans change. Information on current river flows and weir pool levels can be viewed at www.mdba.gov.au.
