ESCANABA — It was beautiful weather for the track meet in Escanaba on Tuesday.
The Escanaba girls finished in first place with 104.5 points while Gladstone had 98 points and Iron Mountain had 34.5 points. The boy’s were led by Gladstone with 102 points, Iron Mountain had 85 points, Escanaba had 63 points and Hannahville had two points.
Drew Hughes of Gladstone highlighted the day winning the 800 meter and the 1600 meter at 4:33.96 just off the school record of 4:35.
“I’m really happy how that turned out i wasn’t expecting that time today,” Hughes said.
Jacie Tuljus of Gladstone had a strong day winning four events the 100 meter, 200 meter, 4×100 relay and the 4×200 relay.
“It felt really good today the wind helped, I’m trying to improve my time and i think i can,” Tuljus said.
Evan Woelffer of Gladstone came in second in the long jump posting a jump of 18’10.5.
“I felt good I feel like i could have done better,” Woelffer said.
Will Fairchild of Iron Mountain took first in the long jump with a jump off 19’6. “That was the longest jump I’ve had. The wind helped but I’m very exited with the result,” Fairchild said.
The high jump had a tie for first with Oscar Kangas of Iron Mountain and Evan Woelffer both posting a jump of 5’8. I tied was best jump so far my goal is to make 5’10 “I’m working hard to get to it,” Kangas said.
Annabelle Neumeier of Escanaba had a good day winning the 800 meter with a time of 2:46.94 and the 1600 meter at a time of 6:02.33.
Luke Bracket set a school record in the 110 meter hurdles.
“He has been working hard and it was a good perfomance for our kids today,” said Gladstone Coach Gary Whitmer. Bracket also won the 300 meter hurdles and 4×400 relay.
