“Council is very disappointed that the State Government have now passed on what we refer to as ‘cost shifting at its worse’ on the levy for essential services without notice. This is going to increase Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s commitment by $295,102 this coming financial year, that has not been allocated for in our budget, which will directly affect our works program moving forward.” Said Goulburn Mulwaree Council Mayor Peter Walker.
“Council will be writing to the State Government and voicing our very strong opposition to this decision that has been made by them.”
“It is difficult enough coping with the increase of the cost of products, and other factors which directly affect our functionality, and as one Council – no different to all other Councils in New South Wales – it puts us in a direct disadvantage to provide ongoing services, when Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) have only indicated a 3.7% rate increase, it means in fact we will go backwards, and services will have to be cut as a result.” Mr Walker Continued.
