On Saturday, May 27, pupils, parents, teachers and friends of Emerald School Gbagada Lagos gathered together for a day of fun-filled outdoor activities during the school’s 10th Emerald Family Fun Day event.
In addition to enjoying a day of games, dance, performances, and great meals, educational administrators delivered remarks highlighting the importance of parents’ active involvement in their children’s education.
The event, a long-standing tradition of Emerald School Gbagada, is organized annually by the school’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association. This program is in commemoration of Children’s Day and was titled “Funfest.”
The Director, Emerald Schools, Mrs. Edna Obaze, described the annual Emerald Family Fun Day as one of the most popular social events during each academic year at the school. According to her, the overarching objective of the event was to reinforce the importance of a close relationship between parents, their children, teachers and the school.
“In addition to providing an opportunity for family bonding, research has shown that engaging in fun and stimulating activities with children can have positive impacts on their social and emotional development and overall wellbeing,” Mrs. Obaze added.
The Head of School, Emerald School Gbagada, Mr. Michael Adeloye, lauded the school’s PTFA for their dedication to promoting children’s health, well-being and educational success through strong parent, teacher and school community involvement.
“Emerald School’s Parent Teachers and Friends Association is an active and vibrant volunteer organization that plays a key role in support of our pupils’ learning and development as they seek to become future leaders, innovators and problem solvers of the 21st century,” Mr. Adeloye added.
The Chairman of Emerald School Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PFTA), Mr. Nicholas Okocha, noted that the primary goal of Emerald School PTFA is to develop and maintain active parent participation in their kids’ all-round education with a view to enriching the teaching and learning environment.
“Emerald School PTFA remains committed to strengthening the bonds that exists among all stakeholders in the school and one of the ways of achieving this is through our annual family fun day,” Mr Okocha said.
Established in 1995, Emerald School is a co-educational institution notable for its student diversity, experienced teaching staff, conducive classrooms and rigorous academic offerings that bring out the best in pupils.
In addition to offering a blend of Nigerian and British curricula, the school places high premium on extracurricular activities and its pupils participates in a variety of competitions ranging from music, sports, literary and debating, coding and robotics, spelling bee to quiz contests.
