A 13-year-old girl was knocked down by a car as she crossed the road in what police are describing as a hit-and-run on the Leicestershire border. Police are investigating the incident which happened in Tamworth Road, Sawley, on Thursday, June 8.
Officers were called to the scene, near Kegworth, close to the border with Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, at around 5.15pm. The driver had fled before police arrived.
The girl, who was crossing the road close to the bridge over the canal, was transported to hospital where she was treated for multiple injuries. A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said she has since been discharged.

Detectives believe the road was busy with traffic at the time of the incident and are appealing for anyone with more information to come forward.
A force statement said: “Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and who has any information to make contact. Did you witness the incident? Or do you have any dashcam footage from the area?”
