Doris was born in Lexington, Missouri and following high school attended the University of Missouri. She married Edward Lee Fitchett on June 18, 1950. They spent the majority of their life and raised their children in Chillicothe, Missouri. Doris was a passionate birdwatcher and very involved in Audubon. She spent the majority of her life as a volunteer for organizations such as Girl Scouts, Meals on Wheels and bird counts.
Another passion was her love for travel. She traveled the world to places such as Iceland, Costa Rica, Bahamas, Mexico, several countries in Europe, as well as the majority of states in the U.S. Her biggest joy was her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Elizabeth (Poogie) Guevel of Gladstone, Mo., four children Vicki (Chris) Duemler of Brodhead, Wis., Debra (Jeff) Holaday of Wildwood, Mo., Mark (Jana) Fitchett of Overland Park, Kan., and Mike Fitchett of Springfield, Mo.,
9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
A private family celebration of life will be held in Lexington, Missouri, where she will be buried next to her husband and extended family.
Memorials can be given to Audubon in Doris Fitchett’s name.
