Diane Evelyn Herz has joined her beloved husband Harold in heaven. She was the only child of Max Lipp and Rae Abel Lipp. Diane, was born in Manhattan (in the same hospital as her future husband). She graduated from Mamaroneck High School, Syracuse University (B.A.), and SUNY Binghamton (M.A.). She is survived by three sons: Henry (wife – Julie; and sons Joshua and Harrison), Bill (wife – Christine), and Seth (wife – Laura; and children Max and Kate). The family lived in Mount Vernon and Larchmont, NY before moving to Binghamton in 1971.
Always an avid reader, upon graduating from Syracuse, Diane began her journalism career at Vogue Magazine. She worked in publishing until she had children, and focused full-time on her family. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Diane enjoyed playing tennis, attending philharmonic concerts, and sailing at Whitney Point with Harold.
Diane also enthusiastically supported many worthy causes close to her heart. She was a tireless volunteer for Remove Intoxicated Drivers (RID), Broome County STOP-DWI, Hadassah, Temple Israel, PTA, and the Jewish Community Center. Her intellectual curiosity, energy, and hearty laugh are missed. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, or the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute would be appreciated. Funeral Services will be held Friday June 9th at 11:00 am at Temple Israel Synagogue 4733 Deerfield Place Vestal NY. Followed with burial at Temple Israel-Riverside Cemetery, Conklin NY.
