MOONTA Football Club has launched its own Demons Bar and Bistro, serving lunches and dinners from its clubrooms every Thursday to Sunday.
The bistro has been serving between 100 to 120 meals every Thursday night and up to 90 meals on other days.
Menu options include schnitzels with a range of toppings, steak, seafood, pasta, vegan and gluten free options, a salad and vegetable bar, seniors’ and kids’ menus, desserts and weekly specials.
“People are starting to become aware we’re not just open for the footy club,” kitchen managers Mark Durdin and Gabriella Jackman said.
“We’re here as a community venue where people can come to relax and enjoy their meals while the kids run amok.
“People are excited to have another meal option where they can stay and dine in or take away if they don’t want to cook one night.
“This has helped bring locals back to Moonta to eat, whereas they might have been going to other nearby towns previously.”
Mr Durdin and Mrs Jackman said the club’s venture started because it was desperate to help fill the local food market.
“We initially wanted to see what response we got, which has been really positive, and now we want to continue growing our hours when the demand grows during the warmer months,” they said.
“We’re hoping to be operating seven days a week by the end of the year.”
The pair said being able to create local jobs had been an added bonus.
“We’ve created 11 jobs for locals from Maitland to Kadina,” they said.
“Our staff are all different ages and bring different strengths to the table.
“It’s important we have a group that gels together.
“All the money we generate goes back into the club and ultimately back into the town.
“We’ve also got a few potential projects on the horizon to improve the dining experience.”
The Demons Bar and Bistro is open for lunches every Saturday and Sunday.
It is also open for dinners every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 5.30pm and Friday from 3pm.
However, the bistro will not be open to the public, for lunch and dinner, when a Moonta Football Club home game is fixtured.
