David Walsh has sealed his fourth straight King of the Desert crown in what was a dominant performance on Race Day 2 at the 2023 Tatts Finke Desert Race.
Clocking an overall race time of 3 hours, 35 minutes and 48.9 seconds, Walsh’s win of the 2023 Tatts Finke Desert Race also doubled as his first ever attempt at the Iron Man Double – competing in both Car and Bike categories.
While the NT rider’s attempt at the car title ended in disappointment earlier this morning after recording a DNF, Walsh was in command of the bike race for all 452 kilometres across the two-day race, gapping the field by almost 2 minutes.
“It feels pretty cool to be on top of the podium,” said Walsh after claiming the four-peat.
“I’m just a very lucky man. I’ve got a very good team behind me and a very supportive family so I’m very lucky.”
Trailing Walsh to the finish was good friend Callum Norton, who maintained second place on the return journey to Alice Springs.
Just over a minute separated Norton from Queenslander Ivan Long, who rounded out the podium in third.
Korey Mcmahon and Liam Walsh ended their campaigns of the 2023 Tatts Finke Desert Race in fourth and fifth respectively, while Method Race Wheels Prologue winner Jacob Smith descended further down the order to finish sixth after a disappointing Race Day 1.
Held on the King’s Birthday Long Weekend (June 9 – June 12, 2023) the 2023 Tatts Finke Desert Race is an off-road, multi-terrain two-day race for bikes, cars, buggies and quads through desert country from Alice Springs to the small Finke community.
