PROVING popular on a Sunday afternoon has been the Federal Hotel Greyhound Punters Club.
At a cost of $5, punters are required to put their skills to the test as they attempt to pick the winners of the last five races on the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club’s Sunday program at Tara Raceway.
Entries can be lodged at the Federal Hotel or for on-course punters, Kevin Jones collects the entries and delivers them to the venue prior to the running of the first of the five races.
The highest points scorer, on a 5, 3, 1 basis, collects a cash prize which is determined by the amount of money in the pool.
If five winners are selected then a $200 Federal Hotel voucher is also added to the cash.
Sean Malone, the Federal Hotel venue manager, was recently out at Tara Raceway on a Sunday afternoon to present the vouchers and cash to Millicent participant Dave Green who had scooped the pool.
For all those in the Sunday Greyhound Punters Club who happen to score more points than Sean then they’ll pick up a free pint for “beating the boss”.
The Federal Hotel also has in a place a “Monty’s Card” which can be obtained by filling out a form and producing the card when purchasing food or beverages at the hotel.
Then it is simply a matter of letting staff know that the credits from the sale will go to the Mount Gambier Greyhound Racing Club.
Also taking place every Sunday afternoon at Tara Raceway and open to all patrons, is the long-running Bartholomew Free Pick 6 – capped at $500 and currently sitting on $430 – which is conducted on races 3 through to 8.
The last time the Pick 6 had been won was in October last year when Edenhope’s Kerry Hawker collected $500 after successfully selecting Bourne Bully, Ebby Tock, Newport Flyer, Mister Banjo, Key To Success and El Banjo.
