Dale F. Hischke, age 83, of Gillett, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 25, 2023. Dale was born on November 8, 1939 to the late Leonard and Leah (Marcks) Hischke. Dale was a hardworking, dependable, humble, and loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend, and coworker. Dale showed love for everyone in his life by showing up, being present, and lending a hand when he could. He spent 30 years of his career as a meat cutter. He later transitioned to truck driving for Stern Lumber and Georgia Pacific and eventually worked in the mill at Georgia Pacific. A testament to Dale’s work ethic and inability to sit still for too long, when he “retired” from Georgia Pacific, he started hauling milk for his brother, Eugene Hischke.
Dale married Marcia (Muth) Arveson on June 8, 1990 at Incarnation Lutheran Church in Green Bay. The couple enjoyed traveling and spent a lot of time driving across the U.S. in their RV – even going as far as Alaska. Dale had many hobbies including hunting in Wyoming, attending music festivals, woodworking, cooking and grilling, and making homemade sausage where he passed down recipes that will be treasured by his family for generations to come. You would regularly find Dale with family or friends out for coffee, having old fashions during happy hour, or heading out to a Friday fish fry or dinner at one of his many favorite restaurants. Those that were blessed enough to have had Dale in their lives will likely have many memories and stories to share.
Dale is survived by his children, James (Linda) Hischke, Debra (Dennis) Coffey, Mike (Robin) Arveson, and Beth (Ken Bettis) Hischke; siblings, Eugene (Joyce) Hischke, Lynne Makholm, Gary (Doris) Hischke, and Lola (Larry) Kitzman; grandchildren, Jocelyn, Molly, Tyler, Kelsey, Jennifer, Kendall, Ryan, Melissa, Katie, Caitlin, and Alex; 12 great-grandchildren and counting. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon (Ken) Nelson; grandson, Christopher Arveson; Nancy Steffel and special friend Patricia (Pat) Drafz.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church in Gillett from 9 am until the funeral service at 12 pm with Pastor Christopher Byars officiating. He will be interred at Wanderers Rest Cemetery beside Marcia. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.gruetzmacherfuneralhome.com.
The family would like to thank Gillett Police Chief Shane Breitenbach, the Gillett Area Ambulance Service, and the City of Gillett Fire Department for the care and compassion offered to Dale and his family during their time of need.
