A city cyclist has been rushed to hospital with “serious” injuries after a crash in Handsworth this afternoon, June 2. The cyclist was involved in a collision with a car on a major route in Birmingham at around 2:30pm.
Ambulance crews, including a critical care paramedic treated the cyclist at the scene, at the junction of Aston Lane and Birchfield Road. He was then rushed to Birmingham City Hospital and is currently being treated for serious injuries.
The driver of the car was not injured, West Midlands Ambulance confirmed. Both Aston Lane and Birchfield Road were closed while 999 workers were at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson told BirminghamLive: “We were called to reports of an RTC at the junction of the A4040 and the A34 in Handsworth at 2.35pm. An ambulance, paramedic officer, MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a cyclist and a car had been involved in a collision.
“The cyclist, a man, was treated by ambulance staff for serious injuries before he was taken to City Hospital for further treatment. The driver of the car was not injured.”
