About the Position
The Curator works collaboratively within the Curatorial team, in support and with the guidance of the Head of Curatorial & Collections, in the development and delivery of a varied and innovative artistic program across the Museum’s seven gallery spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide assistance to the Head of Curatorial & Collections in the development and delivery of artistic programs.
- Initiate and develop artistic programs across a range of exhibition contexts, in support of the museum’s programming goals.
- Coordinate the delivery of administrative requirements across the Curatorial team.
- Maintain an up to date and holistic understanding of the museum’s objectives through a proactive engagement with museum activities and programs.
- Ensure integration and communication of artistic programming goals within the museum.
- Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Head of Curatorial & Collections that are within the scope of the employee’s skill, competence, and training.
Essential Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in art history, theory, practice, curatorial studies, or related discipline.
- Class C (standard) Driver’s Licence desirable.
Experience
- Curatorial experience at a collecting institution, not for profit sector or independent.
Specialist Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of contemporary artistic practices and debates
- Demonstrated experience working closely with artists, their representatives, and supporters.
- Arts administration, database management and computer skills including MIcrosoft Office software.
- Art handling, packing and care.
- Excellent attention to detail.
Conditions
- Based on 35 hours per week, working 28 hours across a 7-day spread, with actual days and times being worked in accordance with facility roster. Hours worked on weekends will attract the appropriate loadings.
- Additional hours up to 35 hours per week may be worked by agreement and paid at the ordinary rate of pay.
- $36.92 to $40.61 per hour plus 10.5% super
- Temporary Part Time, 12 months.
