The Chisholm Trail Arts Council (CTAC) has several events slated for May, June and July, one of which is known as the Starving Artist Sale for CTAC members.
CTAC Executive Director Darcy Reeves said the third annual Starving Artist Sale is an artist-led exhibit for current CTAC Members who happen to be artists.
“This allows a great opportunity for artists (and) members to display their artwork and sell it at a discounted price if they choose,” she said. “It has helped them clean out their inventory and make room for the next season coming up.”
Artists can begin bringing their artwork to hang in the gallery on June 1, with an artist-led reception opening from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on June 8.
Any artwork submitted needs to be wire hang ready and artists will hang their own work.
During the reception, guests can visit with and learn more about the artist, according to Reeves.
“(This) will make the purchase even more memorable in the years to come,” she said.
CTAC recently wrapped up their 3-Dimensional Art Exhibit, which featured several artists over the past month.
After its opening reception April 14, Reeves said they had a a successful show and CTAC was able to help sell $6,900 in artwork for the artists.
“This has been our highest season for art sales which have totaled a little over $13,000 in total sales so far,” she said. “One buyer commented that he was very excited to purchase a piece of artwork by LaQuincey Reed whom he felt was an ‘up-and-coming artist.’”
The exhibit featured artists who specialize in 3D artwork who bring their own unique media, subject matter and styles to the canvas.
Reeves said there were 10 featured artists at the CTAC Art Gallery and they had a variety of art sold from artists in the surrounding area as well.
“Other artwork that sold quite well was small stained glass pieces from Lawton artist, Stacy Makinney,” she said. “Tiny glass ladybugs, dragonflies, frogs, spiders, and bees were among her collection. Jesse Baggett, Wichita Falls, and Mikel Davison both did well with their unique style of artwork. Jesse’s style is fun creative animals painted on stoneware, whereas Mikel’s style focused on sculptures made out of repurposed wood.”
