Residents at Gwernllwyn Care Home on Llandeilo Road were joined by Dame Nia Griffith, MP for Llanelli and shadow minister for international trade, to open the new expansion of the care home complex.
The expansion sees new facilities including 26 more bedrooms, a bowling alley and a coffee shop/bar, with the aim of boosting the residents’ quality of life.
The expansion has been called ambitious and innovative and will allow for the care home to provide care to more people in need of respite and residential care and provide more things to keep existing residents and their families occupied and supported.
Dame Nia Griffith said: “It was a real pleasure to open this new state-of-the-art extension, bar and bowling alley, as it is great that residents here in the Gwernllwyn and their friends and family will be able to relax and enjoy a drink and a game, without having to leave the comfort of the complex.
“I can imagine it will also make visiting Mamgu or Dadgu all the more fun for younger members of the family, and I congratulate Will James and his team on planning and developing this facility.”
The bowling alley and coffee shop/bar will be available to the general public, allowing the local community to interact with those in the care home in a comfortable and safe environment.
There is also additional parking on site for visitors.
