The Cap Coast Crocs are cruising at the top of the Rugby Capricornia Reserve Grade table after notching up a big win.
The Crocs snapped up a victory over the Biloela Cockatoos on Saturday in Biloela to take over the pinnacle of the reggies competition.
Cap Coast would win 26-19 thanks to tries from Liam Nicholls, Wade Donald, Chris Fisher and Riley Cox.
Three successful conversions from Enosi Mocelutu would seal the deal for the Crocs.
The big victory was Bilo’s second loss of the season and now the Cap Coast lads are two competition points ahead of the Cockatoos.
This week the Crocs will get another chance to score a win when they travel to Newman Oval to face the Mount Morgan Lorikeets.
The Lorikeets are winless this season but will be fresh considering they had the round eight bye.
In the other reserve grade match the Frenchville Pioneers Seconds suffered a defeat at the hands of the Dawson Valley Drovers reserve XV.
Joshua Kele’s hattrick was too much for the Pioneers to handle as they waltzed to a 43-10 victory.
That means both Biloela and Frenchville’s second squads will have a chance to rebound from their round eight losses when they collide in round nine.
In the first grade competition the Colts Rugby Club, who had their field completely wrecked on Sunday night by trespassers (see the full story on page 4), held onto their undefeated season by just one point.
The Rockhampton Brothers pushed the current front runners right to the limit but it was the penalty kicks of Viliame Nave which would be the difference.
The Brothers scored four tries while Colts only scored three, but those shots at goal would be the main factor in their incredible win.
Colts will play another huge challenge when they take on the Dawson Valley Drovers at The Stockyard.
Drovers sit in third with their eyes firmly locked on that second position which is currently being clung to by the Cockatoos thanks to two more competition points.
In the other match the Frenchville Pioneers will go against those Cockatoos which will be an interesting clash.
The Brothers proved you can’t count any team out of the contest on the day so the Pioneers will be keen to cause an upset at Ryan Park.
In the women’s sevens competition the Frenchville Pioneers and Colts split their matches while the Cockatoos knocked off the Brothers twice.
This week the Biloela ladies take on the Frenchville Pioneers while the Colts take on Brothers.
