Crawley Borough Council has confirmed the town centre water fountains will be switched on this summer once repairs are completed. Many were left disappointed during the roasting summer of 2022 when the fountains were out of action.
Queens Square often comes to life in the summer months as the fountains are a popular feature with many families taking their children to the fountains to cool off. However, with temperatures last summer almost reaching 40C, many were left disappointed at the absence of the water feature.
At the time the council confirmed an issue had arisen in the plant room. A council statement said “significant repair work” was required with the council subsequently apologising for the inconvenience.

However, this year a council spokesperson said: “We expect the Queens Square fountains to be operational later in the summer. Our contractor has started work and expects to be on site within the next month.
“We know that residents can’t wait to see the fountains working again and we’re looking forward to the day we can switch them back on.”
The fountains were added to the town centre during the renovations which began in 2016 and were completed towards the end of 2017. The renovations saw a raft of new additions to the town centre in an attempt to smarten and modernise it with the fountains one of the more popular additions.
Some locals may be disappointed they will not be switched on in time for the 25C highs forecast this weekend. However, it is hoped that they will bring joy to children once they are eventually switched on at a later date in the year.
