A pair of Cranbrook’s most significant capital works projects of the year are in action across the city.
City officials said crews are active on the Shadow Mountain Sanitary Sewer Servicing project and the 4th Street North Phase 2 reconstruction.
Copcan Civil Ltd is working on the Shadow Mountain project and began pipe installation work on Monday.
Meanwhile, Mackay Contracting has started installing a new water main as part of the 4th Street North Phase 2 reconstruction project.
This work has impacted nearby properties, but crews have set up a way to maintain access to utilities.
“An overhead water service line has been installed to connect all affected residents and businesses with temporary water service,” said city staff. “The existing roadway and sidewalk have also been removed.”
Work to install the water main is expected to take most of the next two weeks, with crews working on the sanitary and storm sewer mains shortly after.
City staff said the project is moving ahead on schedule, and they expect work to be wrapped up by the end of August.
“Both the City and Mackay Contracting remind nearby residents and pedestrians you must stay clear of the construction site on 4th Street North for your safety and the safety of the onsite personnel,” said city staff. “Please follow the directions of all signage in place around the construction zone.”
Cranbrook officials said the 2023 paving program is out to tender, with details on where and when work will happen to come in the near future.
