A LIFESTYLE course about Ayurveda, a form of traditional Indian medicine, is coming to Ballarat later this month.
The lifestyle focuses on preventative medicine and forms of treatment including yoga, acupuncture, herbal therapy and massage.
“It’s eastern medicine which is used in India, Asia and Africa and looks at health from a wellness perspective rather than Western medicine where we treat the sick,” said Jenny Cameron, owner of Bringelli Natural Therapies.
“It looks at keeping the person healthy, so it’s a lifestyle mentality rather than a fix a broken part mentality.”
Ms Cameron was inspired to bring the lifestyle to Ballarat after her own positive experiences.
“Initially my whole interest came about due to ill-health, and I follow by gut instinct to India where I got treatment that was really relevant and helpful,” she said.
The course will be taught by Dr Ram Mani Bhandari, founder of Sunshine Ayurveda, at Bringelli Natural Therapies’ Ballarat North clinic.
“There are not many people down this way who do this medicine,” said Ms Cameron.
“He’s going to be looking at whole aspects of lifestyle and how Ayurveda medicine fits into our constitution and how we balance imbalances.”
It is hoped this course may inspire people to look at healthcare in a different way.
“It’s important we maintain our health, so we don’t need to be doing to the doctor all the time and taking lots of medicines,” said Ms Cameron.
“I’m hoping it will stimulate people to look at their health and nutrition and exercise in a different manner.”
The course will be held on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June at 902 Lydiard Street North and for more information visit bringelli.com.au.
