A speeding driver has doubled his bad luck after cops discovered his car was held together in a peculiar way.
Motorists are being urged to be extra careful on roads during the King’s birthday long weekend with drivers in New South Wales being subject to double demerits. Those driving in New South Wales and Victoria will see an increased police presence on the roads. Police will be targeting speeding, mobile phone usage, seatbelts and motorcycle helmet offences. NSW police have warned commuters to be extra careful.
At about 11.45pm, Ballarat Highway Patrol officers allegedly saw a car speeding on the Western Freeway in Middle Creek in Victoria.
The car was allegedly swerving between lanes and travelling over 146kmph in a designated 80kmph speed zone.
Police were able to stop the vehicle in Beaufort, but found speeding wasn’t the only dangerous act.
After inspecting the vehicle, officers found that the rear windscreen was shattered and the radiator had been duct taped and cable-tied in place.
A 25-year-old Mount Gambier man had his license suspended on the spot, and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
His vehicle was also impounded at a cost of $1625.
Senior Sergeant Paul Maslunka said the speed is completely unacceptable.
“It’s completely unacceptable that people think they can just blast through at whatever speed,” he said.
“We’ll be using every means at our disposal this weekend to try and keep the road trauma down.”
