Agatha Harkness is back to her old tricks in this summer’s Contest of Chaos. Marvel revealed the mystical saga will span eight annuals throughout the summer and force some of Marvel’s biggest heroes to compete. It all kicks off after next month’s Scarlet Witch Annual #1, which will serve as a prequel to the main event.
Agatha Harkness’ Contest Of Chaos
Agatha Harkness is back and ready to cause some chaos in the Marvel Universe. Having recently been revitalized in the comics, this mystical manipulator wants to reshape the magic of the Universe. Unfortunately, this means trouble for the heroes who would put a stop to Harkness’ ambition. To ensure that nobody gets in her way, Agatha unleashes a chaotic corruption to create the Contest of Chaos.
This event of the magical arts comes from writer Stephanie Phillips. The Contest of Chaos is spread over eight oversized annual issues. Each annual focuses on two heroes going head-to-head after being compelled by the forces of chaos. While the main event will be spearheaded by a collection of some of the industry’s best writers and artists, Phillips and artist Alberto Foche dive deeper into Agatha’s motives in bonus stories.
Eight Chaotic Annuals
In June, Steve Orlando and Carlos Nieto bring Scarlet Witch Annual #1 to readers. This book follows the Orlando and Sara Pichelli series, Scarlet Witch. It shows Agatha ready to set her bold plans into action. This involves her former pupil, Wanda, who has recently absorbed the Chthon entity. This prequel launches the Marvel Universe into chaos.
The Contest of Chaos spreads throughout the Marvel Universe and pins some of the greatest allies against each other. It kicks off with Stephanie Phillips and Alberto Foche’s Spider-Man Annual #1. Everyone’s favorite wall-crawler finds himself going toe-to-toe with Wolverine. Then, in Iron Man Annual #1, Jason Loo and David Cutler join Phillips and Foche to pit Iron Man against the mutant Storm.
