The Colts Rugby Club have strengthened their lead on top of the table, defeating the Biloela Cockatoos in a gruelling contest.
The match, played as the main event of the Colts’ Cultural Day, would feature the two top teams of the RCL competition.
Viliame Nave was the main man for the Colts as they ran out 30-24 winners.
Nave would score three tries, kick two conversions, slot a penalty and a drop goal all to help secure a crucial win for the table-toppers.
The win now pushes the Colts toward old rivals the Rockhampton Brothers this weekend.
The Brothers were unsuccessful in their quest to knock off the Dawson Valley Drovers, who have shot into the second position, and now they’ll have to shape up against the best team in the competition.
The undefeated Colts have been too good for the rest of the competition while the Brothers are right down the wrong end of the table.
The other round eight match will see the Frenchville Pioneers face off against the Drovers in a grand final rematch.
With the Pioneers finally picking up their first win of the season two weeks ago, the club will have to be inch-perfect to get their revenge on the side that beat them in 2022’s big dance.
In the men’s reserve grade competition the Cap Coast Crocs continued their hot streak with a solid 36-0 victory over the Frenchville Pioneers reserve grade.
Joel Cox and Jake Adams would both score two tries each to lead the Crocs to a great victory.
And now with that win in their back pocket, Cap Coast will face the toughest of challenges.
The Biloela Cockatoos Second XV are up next, coming off the back of a bye.
The Cockatoos will be fresh and ready to perform for their home crowd as the welcome the Yeppoon-based team to their town.
The first versus second matchup will give the Crocs a chance to catch up on the Bilo squad who are just one point ahead of their opponents.
And in the other match the Frenchville Pioneers second XV will collide with the Dawson Valley Drovers seconds in an intriguing battle.
In the women’s sevens competition, two big wins by Bilo has them out in front of the competition by a solid margin.
This week the Brothers and Cockatoos are scheduled to take place while the Pioneers take on the Colts.
