Heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast to commence on Sunday, June 4 have prompted a Code Blue in the following regional areas: Clare, Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Whyalla.
Local Code Blue responses for people rough sleeping will be activated for these areas from 5pm, Sunday June 4 until 9am, Monday June 5.
“Rough weather in recent weeks has promoted several Code Blues already. These responses help people experiencing homelessness who are most affected by extreme winter weather to remain warm and safe,” Minister for Human Services Nat Cook says.
“I encourage rough sleepers, or anyone who knows a rough sleeper, to call Homeless Connect SA – these services are here to help.
“Rain makes it difficult for people sleeping rough to stay dry and when you add wind into the mix, it creates added safety and health risks, such as hypothermia.”
Homeless Connect SA will continue to operate 24/7 to assist with emergency accommodation. Anyone who is homeless, or at risk of homelessness, is encouraged to contact Homeless Connect SA on 1800 003 308.
This service can assist with emergency accommodation. This number service is available 24/7, every day of the year.
