It’s an exciting week for climate action in Greater Bendigo! Tomorrow night (Saturday May 27), Electrify Everything guru Saul Griffith will share how Bendigo homes can reduce their power bills, reduce emissions, and improve health by electrifying, as part of the Greater Bendigo Climate Summit.
Earlier on Saturday, the Greater Bendigo Climate Summit will take over Ulumbarra theatre with a host of displays, stalls, workshops that will support attendees take effective action to reduce emissions to tackle climate change. The summit will be opened by the Minister for Energy, the Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio, highlights will include a Great Debate on transport, the voices of young people from Greater Bendigo and a movie screening of Regenerating Australia by Damon Gameau.
The Greater Bendigo Climate Collaboration is an exciting project bringing together all sectors of the community to collectively achieve zero emissions in Greater Bendigo by 2030. The collaboration is keen to see Greater Bendigo at the forefront of a new renewable energy powered economy that will be positive for jobs, health, our communities and local business innovation and competitiveness, while also reducing climate change impacts.
In the lead-up to the Summit, the collaboration released their Greater Bendigo Zero Emissions Roadmap. The roadmap outlines the 35 top priority projects to work on together to achieve zero emissions by 2030. Summit attendees are invited to have their say on the draft roadmap.
Greater Bendigo Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said the whole community is invited to attend the summit.
“If you have ever worried about climate change or wondered how we can create a climate friendly Greater Bendigo this is an opportunity to come along, find out some great information and have your say,” Cr Metcalf said.
“The summit marks a new peak for climate and environmental action in the Greater Bendigo community.”
Entry into the daytime Greater Bendigo Climate Summit is free and runs from 9am – 4pm.
