- Woolworths worker injured
- Teenager allegedly wielded small axe
A Woolworths worker has been left injured after they were allegedly struck by a ‘small axe’ by a teenager.
The worker had been in the loading dock working night fill at the Woolworths in Claremont, north of Hobart in Tasmania, at 10.20pm on Saturday.
Police allege a 15-year-old teenager approached with a small axe before striking the worker and threatening another.
The staff member was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The teenager is alleged to have taken several cartons of drinks from a trolley in the loading bay and damaging a parked car during their escape.
The 15-year-old was found by police a short time later and ‘arrested without incident’ with the drinks recovered.
Police confirmed that ‘two other youths’ were present at the scene but ran away when the incident unfolded.
The teenager was charged with aggravated armed robbery and will remain held in custody until their court appearance.
Anyone with knowledge or information of the crime are urged to contact Tasmania Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
