A racing fairytale could unfold at the Sunshine Coast on July 1 as City Of Lights, the half-sister of the legendary racehorse Winx, sets her sights on the $300,000 Group 3 Winx Guineas (1600m).
Following her impressive debut victory at Geelong, City Of Lights, sired by the esteemed Japanese stallion Deep Impact, is now being targeted for the race named in honour of her famous sibling.
Trainer Sam Freedman, in partnership with his father Anthony, confirmed that City Of Lights will travel to Queensland for the Winx Guineas.
“At this stage, she will head up to Queensland, and we will make a decision once she’s up there on how she has done.” Freedman said.
“It would be nice for her to win her sister’s race.”
“Otherwise, she can come back for the spring.”
The Winx Guineas holds special significance as it was the race in 2015 where Winx showcased her immense talent, storming home with a remarkable finish that marked the beginning of her astounding 33-win streak.
Now, City Of Lights aims to follow in her sister’s footsteps and create her own racing legacy at the Sunshine Coast.
