A 57-year-old Cheyenne man is behind bars after allegedly pulling a knife on a fellow veteran.
According to arrest records, police were called to the 3900 block of Ridge Road at about 7:18 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, for a reported assault with a knife.
Police located the male suspect, who was described as being intoxicated, outside of the house where the alleged assault occurred and he was identified as Patrick Earl Clover.
Police say Clover was walking one of his dogs and was stumbling in the middle of the street.
Clover stated he had a pocketknife in his right pocket, which was seized for officer safety. He was then detained and placed in handcuffs and read his Miranda warning.
Clover reportedly told police that the victim allowed him into his house because Clover stated he was a Marine, and that the two were drinking when the victim told him that he too was a Marine.
Clover said he became upset because he didn’t believe the victim and an altercation ensued, in which the victim put his arm around Clover’s neck.
The victim reportedly told police that he invited Clover into his house because he thought Clover was a fellow veteran.
The victim said when he told Clover he was in Afghanistan, Clover didn’t believe him and pulled a pocketknife out of his right pocket with his right hand and held it to his neck.
The victim then pushed Clover away and ran to the neighbor’s house where he called the police.
Police say while they were speaking with Clover, he became confrontational with one of the officers, said, “I’m going to assault you,” and started bumping his chest against the officer.
Clover was placed in the back of the officer’s patrol vehicle and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center where he became uncooperative and went straight to his cell.
Clover has been charged with aggravated assault, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and interference with a peace officer, a misdemeanor.
He’s scheduled to make his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court this afternoon, June 1, at 2 p.m.
