Quality was more variable than last sale, comprising of increased numbers of plainer conditioned cows, a large consignment of plain conditioned bulls and a large line of lightweight northern mixed sex weaners.
Two major processors were notably absent from the buyer panel, however opportunity feeders and restockers operated with selective demand.
Values for prime cattle were mostly firm, while young cattle returning to the paddock averaged 15c lower.
A large sample of suitably weaned steers above 200kg to restockers sold to 362.2 to average 344c/kg. Similar weight weaned heifers returning to the paddock sold to 220.2c to average 210 with those to the trade reaching 204c to average 188c/kg. There were insufficient yearling steers to reliably quote. Yearling heifers above 330kg to feed reached 250 to average 240c/kg.
A small number of grown steers to feed sold to 246c and trade types reached 232c/kg. Grown heifers to the trade topped at 244c to average 226c and heifers to feed averaged 218c/kg. A small number of heavy full mouthed bullocks to export slaughter sold to 250c to average 240c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows to processors averaged 180c, with a top of 186c and 3 scores sold to 196c to average 182c/kg. Fewer numbers of prime heavyweight cow topped at 195c to average 192c/kg.
Heavy bulls to feed destined for live export sold to 270c multiple time to average from 224c to 259c/kg. Market Reporter, Mick Kingham
