Locals will be able to walk down sideshow alley and memory lane as they enjoy the Rockhampton Agricultural Show as it marks its 150th anniversary.
Mayor Tony Williams said this show is aiming to be the biggest and the best so far.
“We are making sure it’s an entertaining experience for everyone attending,” Cr Williams said.
Not only will lots of dagwood dogs, waffles and fairy floss be sold, but there will also be lots of live special entertainment.
They are pulling out all the stops for this anniversary.
“We’re asking people to come out and support the 150th anniversary of the Rockhampton agricultural show,” Cr Williams said.
Council is hopeful they will break records, with the attendance, expecting to see more than 30,000 people walk through the gates over the three days.
“We are very grateful for the show committee and all of the sponsors of the event,” Cr Williams said.
The renowned Humphrey B. Bear will have two shows each day and the professional animal behaviourist Farmer Dave will also have shows throughout the days.
The show will showcase 150 years of memorabilia and have fireworks.
“Come along, enjoy the fun of the show and help us celebrate the 150th anniversary,” Tony said.
This year, family passes have been reduced to $20.
“We know that times are a little bit tough, so we wanted to create an incentive for families to come and enjoy the show too,” Cr Williams said.
There will be lots of rides, showbags for all of the kids to enjoy, and lots of displays within the horticultural areas.
“There is something there for everyone to enjoy,” Cr Williams said.
He said the show is a great economic boost to the region, with many people visiting.
“It’s great for our retailers, hotels, restaurants and novelty stores around the region,” Cr Williams said.
“You can never have a show without buying a dagwood dog and a showbag,” he said.
Cr Ellen Smith is excited for everyone to come and celebrate this event together.
“Advance Rockhampton and the show committee have organised a great lineup of entertainment,” she said.
Cr Smith said there is also a big lineup of commercial cattle, stud cattle, horses and show jumpers.
“Showjumping is always a huge crowd pleaser,” she said.
The preparation for the show began last year, with the horse program starting before Christmas.
The show jumpers’ program has been developed by local show jumpers who travel all over Queensland.
