Greg Oman and his extended family have been adopted into the Kyabram football family since arriving two years ago and at Friday night’s Big Freeze Fight MND event they partially repaid the community through a connection to Geelong premiership hero Tom Stewart.
Mr Oman, whose grandsons Zac and Noah Virivirilau play with the Bombers, relocated with his wife Jeannine from the Geelong region to be closer to their three grandchlidren (including granddaughter Leilani) and their daughter Dannielle (along with her husband Joji).
Before arriving in Kyabram Mr Oman was a key figure at South Barwon Football Club, where Stewart played in Geelong Football League club’s 2013 premiership (coached by former Geelong full-back Matthew Scarlett) after finishing with the Geelong Falcons in the elite underage competition.
Since being recruited to Geelong with pick number 40, at a 23-year-old at the 2016 national draft, he has played 136 games, been a four time All-Australian, won the 2021 Carji Greeves Medal (Geelong best and fairest) and played in an AFL premiership.
The now 30-year-old secured the signatures of his premiership teammates after a jumper was donated to the club by Aviso Integral Insurance.
“I was at South Barwon while Tom was playing there and he is married to a mate of mine’s daughter. We picked the jumper up on Thursday night,” Greg Oman said.
Zac,12, and Noah, 9, are eye-catching players with the Bombers through their Fijian background.
The bid at the time of publication was $500, so if you want to own a piece of Geelong history here is your opportunity. Head to the Kyabram Junior Footy Club facebook page and place a bid,
