David and son Josh played with the Goulburn Murray team in the 16-side men’s competition and Olivia played with Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields in the women’s event.
The men’s team finished equal top in the qualifying rounds, but lost the final to Metro West by one shot. The women’s team also lost its final.
David Cartwright played as third to Tallygaroopna’s Mark Ryan, while teenage son Josh was the lead for another Tallygaroopna skip, David Daws.
Ryan and Daws were among five Tallygaroopna players in the team, which also included Euroa’s Ken Sutcliffe and one Shepparton Park representative.
Premier Shepparton Golf had two representatives in the team (along with one emergency), including the competition’s leading skip Brad Orr.
In the qualifying rounds David Cartwright was involved in five wins, from the seven rounds, while Josh’s rink had four wins and a draw in the team’s only defeat of the qualifying rounds.
Goulburn Murray lost to Metro West, which it met in the final and lost again, in round four 27-50 when David Cartwright’s rink was beaten by 13 shots and Josh’s rink had an 11-all draw.
After losing two of the first three rounds, Josh’s rink was unbeaten until the final when they lost 11-14.
In the final, David’s rink was beaten 9-10 as the Goulburn Murray team lost by just one shot.
Olivia Cartwright’s Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields team finished on top of its section before the finals, winning five and drawing one of its seven matches.
They beat Eastern Ranges by 15 shots, Cartwright bowling as third to Moama teammate Cassandra Millerick as the team lost by seven shots.
BCG beat Yarra Bowls Region by four shots, with Millerick and Cartwright’s rink losing a second match before they scored a match winning three-shot victory against Ovens and Murray in the qualifying rounds, which BCG won overall by one shot.
In their only loss, to Northern Gateway, Cartwright’s rink lost by eight. BCG dominated neighbouring Goulburn Murray by 25 shots, a five-shot win for the Kyabram teenager’s rink, its best of the tournament.
They lost by five in the drawn match and finished with a 14-6 win, then scored a third win in the final qualifying round.
The team lost its final against Ovens and Murray by 18 shots, Cartwright and Millerick’s rink losing 8-10.
