The western bulldogs weathered a late surge out of desperation carlton to hold out for a stubborn 20 points AFL Victory at Marvel Stadium.
Leading 31 points early in the third quarter, the Bulldogs conceded the next six goals when Carlton took the lead midway through last season.
But the Bulldogs responded well, with goals from Arthur Jones, Bailey Smith, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and a third from Anthony Scott securing the 11.13 (79) to 8.11 (59) win.

The win puts Luke Beveridge’s team sixth in the standings and has won their sixth game in seven starts.
After scoring just one goal by the 10th minute of the third quarter, the Blues put on some of their best games of the season in a scintillating period.
Carlton was booed at halftime, the second time in as many weeks that the ardent blues supporters have vented their frustration at Marvel Stadium.
The tone was set as Harry McKay, Jesse Motlop and Patrick Cripps all missed shots in front of goal.
McKay, who finished goalless, fired a set shot from 30 yards straight in front of the front in the first quarter, using his favorite snapping technique.
Michael Voss’ Blues were blasted from every corner of the AFL landscape after their disappointing 26-point loss to Premiership contenders Brisbane Lions.
Fans, rulers and ex-players all expressed their frustration at Carlton’s start of the season as they look to play in the finals for the first time since 2013.
The Blues were bland for the first two and a half quarters, but as the game progressed they should gain confidence in their style of play.
However, Carlton twins Charlie Curnow and McKay continue to struggle to make the same impact as last year.
Curnow played an important role in the closing stages of the game, scoring a big goal in the last quarter and finishing the game at 2.3, but isn’t playing as well as he did during his Coleman Medal-winning season.
At the Bulldogs, Bailey Smith was back at his best with 30 touches, while Premier League midfielder Tom Liberatore provided the trigger with a crucial goal in the last quarter.
Carlton (4-1-4) faces another big challenge next Sunday when they take on in-form rival Collingwood in a blockbuster at the MCG.
The Bulldogs will travel to Ballarat to host their first game of the season in the regional city against Adelaide on Saturday.
