Designed to discover the very best snaps of our region, the competition attracts hundreds as snappers try their hand at producing one of the final 13 images that get selected for the calendar, which is free of charge for residents and delivered to over 110,000 residents’ homes and the City’s customer service and leisure centres. It’s a real beauty to have hanging in your home and is a testament to both the talent and the incredible region in which we live.
With the competition back, the City is now calling for shutterbugs to share their ‘uniquely Geelong’ images for a chance to be featured in the next calendar.
Residents – both amateur and professional photographers and of any age – can submit photographs they have captured from around the region, from iconic scenic views, stunning seascapes, wildlife sanctuaries, historic sites and heritage buildings, to inner-city streets and bustling laneways. With some of the most picturesque landscapes in Australia, there are limitless ways to celebrate and showcase the region.
Alongside the image, the entries must include a short explanation of why the image is uniquely Geelong and what it means to you.
A public vote will be held to determine the final 13 photographs for the calendar, including the calendar cover photo. Last year over 5,400 voters cast their votes.
“Our annual calendar photography competition provides residents with an opportunity to celebrate and share our local landscapes, seascapes and urban places in a way that can only be truly appreciated visually,” says Councillor Melissa Cadwell, Chair of the Creativity and Culture portfolio.
“People love the calendar. It’s really very popular.
“Every year I’m amazed by the quality of the photography. We live in such a beautiful part of the world and our annual calendar photography competition is for residents with a passion for photography, to get out and about.”
After the final 13 photographs are selected in September, more than 135,000 calendars will be printed and then posted to households in November. Additional copies of the calendar will be available to pick up at the City’s customer service centres and local libraries from November.
You can submit as many photos as you wish, however only two photographs per person can be included in the final calendar (12 months and 1 cover).
Entries are now open and and closes at 5:00pm on Friday 11 August 2023. From here, a shortlist will be put to a public vote later this year. You can submit your entry here.
