Local businesses across the region are encouraged to book a stall at the upcoming Bundaberg Region Careers Expo this month.
The event is co-hosted by Bundaberg Regional Council, Link and Launch (Department of Education) and Jobs Bundaberg.
Mayor Jack Dempsey said Council was helping coordinate the event in conjunction with partners and local industry to showcase career opportunities, employment and pathways to retain the region’s talent.
“A key focus of the expo is to equip young people across the region with information and tools to successfully navigate life after school,” Mayor Dempsey said.
“We hope this event can support greater connection between our region’s industry with the community to enable pathways to employment and further education.
“I encourage as many local businesses and organisations as possible to register to attend and share what you have to offer with our students, job seekers and wider community.”
The expo is the ideal place for Bundaberg Region businesses and organisations seeking to position themselves as an employer of choice.
Event organisers have identified key industries of high demand across the region in health, manufacturing, agriculture and more to help businesses self-identify.
Shalom College has sponsored the event and Pathways Coordinator Liza O’Donnell said the adage “you can’t be what you can’t see” applies to regional students.
“The Bundaberg Careers Expo is a great opportunity for all of Bundaberg’s students to gain exposure to not only different industries, but also the various roles within those industries,” Ms O’Donnell said.
“…the more exposure to career options, the better for their future decision making.
“The Bundaberg Careers Expo is not only an opportunity for our local students, but also an opportunity for employers to grow their future workforce and educate young people about the specific requirements of their organisations.”
CQUniversity Associate Vice-President of Gladstone and Wide Bay Regions Luke Sinclair said the university was proud to be a sponsor for the careers expo.
“Our team attending the event is looking forward to chatting with the prospective students and providing them with the many post high-school pathway options that we have available,” Mr Sinclair said.
“The Bundaberg Careers Expo is a great opportunity to speak directly with the next generation and find out what it is that they are looking for when it comes to their futures.
“Attendees can expect to gain plenty of information around options for study from TAFE level through to undergraduate qualifications.”
