Police are seeking public assistance to identify a man who may be able to assist with investigations into a break and enter offence in Tannum Sands on Sunday, April 30.
Initial reports by police indicate the bumbling male thief entered the business on Wyndham Avenue at 4am on April 30.
CCTV footage released by police shows the man, wearing clothing to protect most of his face, using a hammer in an attempt to smash the window of the pay station multiple times before dropping it as he later tries to put it in his pocket.
The footage shows him then pushing the smashed glass in with his bare hands and manoeuvring a few times to fit in the small space – at one point almost getting stuck in the window frame.
He then attempts to flee back out the window with the drawer of a cash register, only to discover it is empty when it slides open in the rush.
The footage then shows the man pausing, realising his mistake and ditching the register before heading into the office of the store and attempting to open the safe – then soon giving back.
He then exits back out the window, again trying to squeeze through the small gap, losing a hat in the process, and then running back down the driveway.
Police are asking for public assistance to help identify the man.
