The AFL Capricornia competition heads into a potentially fiery weekend for round four when the Glenmore Bulls travel to the Boyne Island Tannum Sands Saints home.
The last time these two teams faced there were plenty of fireworks which resulted in a BITS Saints win.
That match was the 2022 preliminary final at Stenlake Park where the Saints secured a spot in the grand final.
After an intense final there was no love lost between the squads and now they get an opportunity to battle once again.
The Bulls will be out for a touch of vengeance from that match which ended their 2022 season.
Glenmore have won two on the trot this season, taking out the Gladstone Suns in round two before more recently knocking off the Rockhampton Panthers 6.9 (45) – 4.6 (30).
Contributions from Thomas Blackborough, Zane Blackborough, Leon Christensen, Tim Higgins, Braden Mitchell and Jack Twomey all added up to a big win for the Bulls against their local rivals.
Those goal scorers will all need to be on-song this weekend if they are to overcome their round four opponents.
The Saints remain undefeated to kick off the season, winning their round three match against the Brothers Kangaroos 12.5 (77) – 8.2 (50).
However the BITS boys have stumbled once this season, having picked up a drawn result against the Panthers earlier this season.
All of those results point to an extremely tight affair this weekend with the victor earning plenty of bragging rights and momentum moving forward.
The Brothers Kangaroos get a chance to hop back on the winning trail this weekend when they welcome the Gladstone Suns to Kele Park.
Brothers opened their campaign with a win but have gone 0-2 in matches since then.
But this week they get an opportunity to take down the Suns who had one of their best performances against the Yeppoon Swans in years.
Gladstone were defeated comfortably 19.7 (121) – 12.6 (78) by the reigning champs but compared to last year’s totals of 49, 27 and 32, it was a much better attacking effort.
They will take that, including out-scoring the Swans in the third stanza, into their match against the Kangas this weekend.
And finally the Yeppoon Swans look to continue their perfect streak when they come up against the Rockhampton Panthers.
The Panthers are winless and sit just above the Gladstone Suns with Rockhampton’s draw against BITS doing enough to keep their collective heads above water.
A top two matchup headlines the AFL Capricornia women’s competition this week as the only two remaining undefeated teams collide.
The Yeppoon Swans and Rockhampton Panthers each won their round three contest to keep their respective winning ways alive.
This week it’s likely one of those teams will drop down a peg with the winner taking over the apex of the ladder.
In other matches the BITS Saints face the Glenmore Bulls and the Brothers Kangaroos take on the Gladstone Suns.
