The Glenmore Bulls are back on track but now hunt another dangerous opponent.
The Bulls had a shock loss to the Gladstone Suns last week but against local opposition the Glenmore squad got the job done.
Playing against the Brothers Kangaroos on Friday night, Glenmore would go on to win 8.9 (57) – 6.3 (39).
Corey Redsell would kick three of the team’s maximums while Leon Chrtistensen (2), Darcy Payne, Jacob Redsell and Jake Stephens would all contribute to the scoreline.
A brilliant third stanza would be the main difference maker between the squads with Glenmore scoring 2.4 (16) to Brothers 0.1 (1).
Now in the Bulls’ vision is the BITS Saints, the only team the Bulls are yet to beat this season.
The BITS Saints were knocked off by the Yeppoon Swans 12.12 (84) – 4.7 (31) on the weekend but still remain in the hunt for the top spot.
But the Saints have already beaten the Bulls this season 8.5 (53) – 4.7 (31) and they’ll be aiming to do that again this week.
With the Bulls six points behind the Saints on the ladder, and the Suns on the same competition points as the Bulls, this match could play a crucial role in the outcome of the finals series.
With the season over the halfway mark there’s no surprise to see the Yeppoon Swans at the top of the leaderboard.
The Swannies picked up that aforementioned win over the Saints on the weekend to extend their lead on the competition and now have the current bottom side in their sights.
The Rockhampton Panthers are scrambling, having suffered another defeat on the weekend, and now take on the might of Yeppoon.
The Swans are in no mood for games either. Since having had their streak snapped the Yeppoon squad have won their next two games in brilliant fashion.
They won’t be taking the Panthers lightly but will be looking to add to their goal percentile on Saturday.
And finally the Brothers Kangaroos will have their chance to bounce back when they play the red-hot Gladstone Suns.
The Suns have won their last two on the trot while the Kangas are winless in their previous two matches.
These teams played out a six-point thriller at Kele Park back in round four, which fell in the favour of the travellers, and it’s expected that they play out a similar match this time around.
In the women’s competition the Rockhampton Panthers remain in the lead after a 6.4 (40) – 0.2 (2) victory over the Gladstone Suns.
The Swans are close behind after picking up a 6.7 (43)- 1.2 (8) win against the BITS Saints.
And finally the Brothers Kangaroos got the better of the Glenmore Bulls with a 4.6 (30) – 2.2 (14) win.
This week will see the battle of the big dogs with the Yeppoon Swans colliding with the Rockhampton Panthers with a spot at the top on the line.
The Glenmore Bulls host the BITS Saints while the Gladstone Suns welcome the Brothers Kangaroos to Clinton Park.
