Brothers Bulldogs cracked a century on the scoreboard in their latest clash against Across The Waves Eagles in the senior men’s competition.
The Bulldogs defeated the Eagles 15.10.100 – 4.6.30 at the Brothers Sports Grounds for Round 6 of the Wide Bay AFL competition.
Brothers coach Brad Grogan said while he knew he had a strong squad taking the field, he didn’t expect to have such a big win.
He said it was great to see the squad get off to a “flying start”.
They kicked five goals in the first quarter, four in the second and fourth quarter and two goals in the third quarter.
Rhys Coombe kicked eight goals, Dylan Keam secured two goals while Harrison Hodgson, Cody Woodrow, Jaykob Gooder, Lachlan McGill and Jake Goldsmith each kicked a goal.
Grogan said the team’s captain Tristan Taylor played his best game of the year and former Bulldogs junior Goldsmith returned to the club to play a senior match.
He said it was great to have Goldsmith back at the club after playing at a QAFL Division 1 level.
Brothers captain Tristan Taylor said it was a good game after starting “a bit too flat” against the Bombers the previous match.
Taylor said they had been working on tempo and enthusiasm through their training and it worked for them against Waves.
Having played a few games together now, particularly in the midfield, he said the cohesion was good among the team.
Taylor said Bombers were the benchmark everyone was trying to get to, and Brothers would keep “ticking away and mow them down hopefully”.
Throughout the Waves clash, he said the back six did a good job to keep them to four goals and six behinds.
Waves co-captain Michael Blair said they had a lot to work on and weren’t panicking.
He said they needed to work on their consistency, as currently their “bad is bad” and their “good is pretty good”.
Blair said they would be training both nights this week, and doing what they can to stay healthy.
With a bye this round, he said they’d take the weekend to refresh.
They are currently sitting with four wins and two losses and Blair said the season was in their hands.
This weekend Brothers take on Bay Power in Hervey Bay.
Grogan said they would look to continue improving against Bay Power who put in a tremendous effort against the Bombers last weekend.
The Bombers continue to be undefeated, winning 13.8.86 – 9.3.57.
Round 7 will kick off at Keith Dunne Oval with the senior women’s team playing at 2pm and the men’s team taking the field at 3.30pm.
