Brodie Kostecki is poised to join the ranks of Shane van Gisbergen and venture to the United States to make his NASCAR Cup Series debut. While Kostecki may not be a stranger to the scene, having participated in the development ARCA series in 2013 and 2014, a few steps below NASCAR, rumors have long circulated that he would seek a competitive return to the United States. Now, his manager Nathan Cayzer has disclosed that a deal is on the horizon. Kostecki currently drives for Erebus Motorsport in Supercars.
“It looks promising at this stage,” Cayzer shared with Supercars Trackside. “Hopefully, within the next week, we’ll finalize the deal, which is exciting for him. It’s just in his blood to want to do it. It’s just a matter of time before we can get him in one, and when we do, I’m confident he will make us all proud and perform exceptionally.”
When asked if a deal was feasible, Cayzer expressed confidence, saying, “I believe so. I don’t think it’ll be a problem. People are eager to support him, and that’s what matters most.”
Kostecki gained experience racing on both ovals and road courses during his time in the ARCA series as a teenager. He achieved his career-best finish of fifth in his final race at Dover International Speedway before returning to Australia. In 2017, the Perth native made his debut in the Super2 Series and eventually transitioned into Supercars as a wildcard in 2019.
In 2021, Kostecki secured a spot on the Bathurst 1000 podium alongside David Russell. With the introduction of the new Gen3 regulations, he currently leads the standings with two race wins.
During a break between events, Kostecki and his Erebus Motorsport team traveled to the United States, where they observed Richard Childress Racing. They were present for RCR’s third win of the season with Kyle Busch at Gateway, Illinois.
“It was an incredible trip,” Kostecki shared. “We brought our two race engineers, George Commins and Tom Moore, and it was Will Brown’s first NASCAR race, so we got to deafen him as the cars zoomed by. It was a fantastic experience for them to witness a whole different world over there.”
If a deal materializes for Kostecki to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series, it is likely to occur at a non-oval event. The Chicago Street Course on July 3 is the first of its kind, but given the timeframe, it seems unlikely. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course race on August 14 appears to be the most plausible option, as the other two conflicting events at Watkins Glen (August 20) and the Charlotte Roval (October 8) coincide with Supercars events at Tailem Bend and Bathurst, respectively.
Another Supercars driver, Shane van Gisbergen, has already confirmed his NASCAR Cup Series debut. He will compete in the inaugural Chicago street race with Trackhouse Racing.
