A teenager has died in a workplace incident in Perth’s southeast.
Emergency services rushed to TLC Surface Treatment factory on Railway Pde in Welshpool just after 8am on Thursday.
They discovered a 16-year-old boy who had suffered critical injuries before taking him to hospital.
WorkSafe WA said he was “struck” by an object.
“Sadly, he died a short time later,” a WA Police spokesperson said.
The boy suffered crush injuries and is believed to have been a trainee or apprentice.
TLC Surface Treatement Directors Michael Miller and Matthew Clarke said their “heartfelt thoughts and sympathy” were with the boys family.
“We offer them our fullest support at this worst of times,” the statement read.
“Counselling support has been offered to all our employees and contractors.”
His death is the sixth workplace-related death in less than a month.
Just three days before the boy’s death, father-of-two Kieren McDowall died at Mineral Resources’ Onslow Iron project in WA’s Pilbara region.
A 62-year-old crane operator also died earlier in Juna at a PACT construction site in Applecross after falling off a ladder.
On the same day, a technician was killed while working at Woodside’s North Rankin Complex in the Pilbara.
Police are now preparing a report for the Coroner, with forensic officers spotted at the worksite after the incident.
WorkSafe and the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety are also investigating the incident.
