A boy has died after crashing into a parked ambulance after a police chase. The 15-year-old boy was riding an electric bike when the smash happened on Thursday afternoon (June 8).
Emergency services blocked off Lanworthy Road in Salford, Greater Manchester, for hours following the fatal incident as collision investigators trawled the scene for evidence. Within the cordon, an ambulance could be seen with a smashed windscreen.
Greater Manchester Police has since confirmed officers followed the teenager as he rode an electric bike along Fitzwarren Street, onto Lower Seedley Road. However the force said bollards ‘prevented the police vehicle from continuing to follow him’.
Manchester Evening News reports that the collision happened moments later and the teenager sadly died. The incident has now been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
