Jean Bowden (nee Walker), passed away peacefully at home, on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the age of 90. Born January 13, 1933, in Macclesfield, England to parents George and Doris Walker, she was the second oldest of five children, all of whom predeceased her: Alan, Sylvia, Hazel and Ian. Jean is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Alan James Broome Bowden, by daughter Karen (spouse Doris), son Michael (spouse Lisa) of Ashcroft, BC, and grandchildren Riley (Shannon), and Jacob (Ashley) of Prince George, BC, Connor, of Port McNeill, BC, and Shannon (Alex) of Halifax, NS. Jean is also survived by great grandchildren Trysten, Kendra-Eden, Archer, Evelyn and step grandchildren, Lena, Ethan, and Tayla of Prince George, and sisters-in-law, Barbara (in England) and Kathleen (in Washington State, USA) as well as many nieces and nephews, including nephew Nigel (Katrina, Anastasia, Adrian) of Victoria, BC. Of special note, Jean is survived by her Pen Pal Joan Apple of Pennsylvania, USA. Joan and Jean began exchanging letters while both were in school. They met in person when Jean moved to Canada, and a few times since and have continued with letters and phone calls for the last 75 years. Jean worked for many years as a clerk for Health Units in both Macclesfield, England and Prince George, Canada. In 1966, Mum emigrated to Ontario, Canada from Southampton, England, and in 1970, the family moved to Prince George. After their retirement in 1993, Jean and Jim spent many winters in Arizona before settling on the Sunshine Coast in 2008, to be closer to family. When that family moved to Ashcroft in 2019, Jean and Jim followed, moving into Villa Fronterra where Jean spent many peaceful hours watching trains, birds, and the ever-changing river landscape from her living room windows. Our family would like to express our appreciation for all the care given to Mum by Brenda from Better-At-Home, and to the Ashcroft Community Health staff, particularly nurses Nova and Sonya, and Care-Aide Nina. At Jean’s request there will not be a service. In Jean’s memory, if anyone wishes, please donate to a charity of your choice.
