Premier Racing at Sandown Park tonight is highlighted by the $15,250 Judy Hayley Memorial Final (515m) featuring Bobby Axelrod.
The Group 2 Ballarat Cup (450m) finalist was victorious for the 21st time in his career from 42 starts in easily the quickest of the two Judy Hayley Memorial heats at Sandown Park on Sunday.
BOBBY AXELROD (1) THRASHED HIS RIVALS AT SANDOWN PARK ON MAY 28:
“I was really happy with him on Sunday; he went half a second quicker than the other heat,” Jess Hopkins – trainer of Bobby Axelrod – advised GRV’s Gerard Guthrie.
“I think 500 metres is his pet distance. He was running in the country cups because they were on and he was racing well, but he’s actually a really strong 500-metre dog.”
Hopkins also warned punters to not count out her other finalist.
“Archman is the fastest dog in my kennel; he’s an absolute freak but he just doesn’t show it.
“He’s capable of winning the race, but he could come last too.”
Lakeview Buff – a Group 1 Sapphire Crown (515m) finalist a fortnight ago – has won three of her last five starts and she is considered the biggest danger to Bobby Axelrod in Race 3 at 6:48pm.
Tonight’s meeting at Sandown Park is the annual celebration of Women in Racing and the co-feature is the $15,250 GOTBA Karen Leek Memorial (515m), which is Race 4 at 7:07pm.
The key chances include 14-time winner Zipping Eve, promising chaser Meatball Molly and Rachael’s Tears; litter sister of the Group 3 Launching Pad Final (515m) quinella Trooper Tears and Trapper Tears.
“I’d much prefer her in the ‘red’ (Box 1) than the ‘blue’ (Box 4),” Jessica Sharp – trainer of Meatball Molly – told GRV’s Peter Quilty.

Trooper Tears is one of the many Victorian youngsters lining up at Albion Park tonight in heats of the Group 2 Flying Amy Classic (520m) with the first qualifier Race 2 at 7:01pm.
Last Friday night’s Group 3 Racecallers Showdown (595m) winner Hector Fawley headlines the Victorian charge in the four heats of the Group 3 Carnival Chase (600m) with the first qualifier Race 9 at 9:32pm.
