Dealer Cairo Williams was caught with a gun and £10,000 worth of drugs after he was spotted riding a bike through a Staffordshire town. Now the 22-year-old is behind bars after being found with heroin, cocaine, cash and the weapon in Tamworth.
Officers spotted him riding a bike in the Wolseley area of the town earlier this year. While he attempted to evade the cops he was subsequently stopped and searched.
The force say they found a handgun with ammunition, crack cocaine worth around £6,200, more than 80 wraps of heroin, three mobile phones and over £400 in cash. Now Williams, of Kings Heath, Birmingham has been handed a sentence of five years and four months after appearing at Stafford Crown Court.
The defendant, who admitted the offences, was jailed for possession of a firearm, possession of firearm ammunition, possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine, and possession of criminal property. Officers say on searching the phone they discovered Williams was peddling drugs as part of a county line operation – where criminals look to set up across borders.
Detectives have welcomed the sentence handed down to Williams. Detective Sergeant Jon Bradbury, who dealt with the case, said: “I’m happy that we’ve been able to disrupt a major drug network and take a potentially lethal weapon off our streets.
“We are proactive in our pursuit of serious and organised crime and we will continue to act on intelligence and work alongside local partners to stop those responsible for these crimes in Staffordshire.”
