WYNDHAM MAKE A STATEMENT
Defending men’s champions Wyndham recorded arguably its biggest win of the season with a 98-85 win over Hume on Saturday night.
A strong second half from the visitors was a difference between the two sides as Maurice Howard led the way with 27 points.
The result marked back-to-back losses for the Broncos who have now fallen to third on the ladder.
Chris Elder had a game-high 25 points on 45 per cent shooting.
YOUNG GUN’S HUGE AFTERNOON
Harrison Sealey isn’t likely to have a bigger night for Ringwood’s Youth Champ men’s side anytime soon.
In his side’s 100-83 win over Melbourne on Sunday, he shot the lights out with 50 points on 19-27 shooting to put together a brilliant display.
MCKINNON’S IMPORTANT WIN
Keep an eye on McKinnon’s form in the coming weeks.
On Sunday afternoon, they outclassed Keysborough 110-82 to move to fifth spot on the ladder and maintain touch with the teams chasing finals spots.
Nathan Davis and Sharif Black carried a large part of the offensive load with 51 points between them as the former made six shots from deep.
HUME’S HUGE VICTORY
The Broncos’ women’s side might appear to be outside of the Championship Division playoff picture right now but a 102-87 win over Sherbrooke is keeping them in the hunt.
Tegan Hindle lit it up off the bench with 27 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals to power her side to a season defining win.
The win came at an important time with fourth placed McKinnon dropping both of its games at the weekend.
COLLINGWOOD FINDS ITS BEST
After losing its first nine games, Collingwood is suddenly flying in the Division 1 men’s competition.
The All Stars produced one of the upsets of the season with a 78-70 victory over Warrnambool on the road.
Lino Manhom enjoyed a strong performance with 14 points and 21 rebounds while Jacob Daniels led the way with 16 points.
Seahawks star Jamal Pollydore wasn’t able to get his side across the line despite dropping 40 points.
WARRANDYTE IMPRESS AGAINST PAKENHAM
The Venom were able to maintain touch with the Division 1 men’s top-five after a 95-89 upset win over Pakenham.
A strong 35-22 played a key role in setting up the victory as Michael Birt II led the way with 29 points as Matthew Scammell added 21.
Pakenham did bounce back with a victory against Coburg on Sunday.
ALMOST LIKE AN ELIMINATION FINAL
Coburg’s five-point Division 2 women’s win over Collingwood could make a major difference later in the season.
The Giants now have two less wins than fourth-placed Blackburn, although they have a game in hand.
Collingwood is three games back.
BLACK ANGELS FIRE WHEN NEEDED
Melbourne University has done its part in the race for the Division 1 women’s finals after beating Bellarine, 74-67.
Meera Coburn added 17 points and eight rebounds in a strong display while Georgia Varley wasn’t able to get her side across the line with 20 points.
With a 4-5 record, Melbourne University can close the gap on Mildura, who sit fourth at 6-5, in the coming weeks.
SURF COAST’S BEST IS MORE THAN GOOD ENOUGH
It’s been a bumpy ride to start the season for Surf Coast.
Sitting at 5-5 after the latest round of action, a 94-93 win over Altona on Saturday night proved the Division 2 men’s side best is good enough to challenge the competition’s top sides.
A 37-20 opening term laid the foundations for the home side as Tyler Erard led the way with 28 points.
