Berryhill Post 165’s baseball team opened its season Thursday with a 10-2 win over Hit Dogs of Rochester Hills at the Exposure at the Grands tournament in a game held at Williamston High School.
Nathan Masar earned the win on the mound, going four innings and allowing two runs, while Mitchell Walters threw three innings of shutout ball to earn the save.
Brody Krzysiak homered for Berryhill, while Walters had two hits, including a double, and Zack Parker also had two hits.
Post 165’s second scheduled game at the tournament was rained out. Berryill will continue tourney play against Southwest Oakland on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Flint’s Broome Park, then will face Diamondback Elite at 6 p.m. Friday at Flint’s Whaley Park.
Also in Thursday action at the Exposure at the Grands tournament, Linwood Post 239 beat Diamonds (Grand Rapids) 4-3 and beat USA Prime (Detroit area) 7-2, both at Grandville High School.
Ben Kochany earned the win against Diamonds, going six innings and giving up three runs on seven hits and one walk, while striking out six.
Hayden Hileman pitched a scoreless, hitless seventh inning to pick up the save.
Payton Guilbeaux had two hits for Linwood, while Lucas Mead went 1-for-1 with two walks and had a run batted in, Connor Dee wen 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Jacob Vander Haar also drove in a run.
Owen Wendt got the win against USA Prime, going six innings and giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
Guilbeaux went 3-for-4 with a double for Post 239, while Wendt had two hits with a double, Mead and Daniel Duley both drove in two runs, Vander Haar had one RBI, and Jacob Kowalski scored three times.
Linwood will take on Team Elite from Grand Rapids on Friday at 6 p.m. at Gainey High School.
