Auskick
The last two weeks of Auskick have seen a real development in participant skills, with kids showing their abilities in all positions.
With the temperature falling as we head into winter, it’s a reminder that Auskick is on every week even in the very cold and wet.
Last Saturday the 7/8s put on an exhibition show at half-time for the Benalla Saints at the showgrounds, which was a raging success with a great day had by all.
Shoutout to all Kangaroo and Bulldogs parents/guardians who volunteered their time over the last two weeks, it does not go unnoticed.
Saturday, June 10, has no Auskick scheduled for the long weekend.

BENALLA HOCKEY CLUB
GVHA round five
Under-10 Euroa v Strikers
Abbie led Euroa’s charge scoring two goals, with brother Teddy a solid full back letting very few past for the goalie to deal with.
Under-12 v SYC
With no bench, the Under-12s had a tough game against a strong SYC. Steele had another great game as goalie, deflecting an onslaught of balls, including five in a row at one stage. Serenity worked well up the wing, passing wide along the boards to Jack who scored a long shot in behind the goalie. Abbie turned many balls over and captain Brodie positioned well all game, including to almost score before Jack beat him to it for Benalla’s second! Goals to Jack Chittick: 2.
Coaches award to Steele.
Under-14 Orange v GVGS
The Under-14 Orange team ran hard against the fast GV Grammar, and was appreciative of Amity and Alida providing a bench. Captain Kobe teamed up with Luci to run the field with some fast breaks off Xavier’s turnovers in defence. Goalie Annie stepped out to meet many advances, and Sophie positioned alongside her to cover the whole goal against the relentless GV Grammar. Erin covered the field well, scoring her first ever goal — straight through the goalies feet! Goals to Erin Jenkins: 1.
Coaches award to Annie.
Under-14 Black bye.
Under-17 Mooroopna v Strikers
Amber played Strikers under lights on Friday night. Her strong defence pushed Strikers, including Jacinta and Angus Woodward, with Jacinta playing a stellar game turning the ball over, and Angus scoring a goal. Strikers won 8-4.
B-women v Euroa
The women also ran hard against friendly rivals Euroa, chasing their early goal. Benalla’s juniors showed their improved confidence, with both Jacinta and Sophie Winkler positioning well for some long passes down the wing, and Erin covering the whole field as an inner.
The team were unlucky not to score from a number of penalty corners, with strong hits in by Sarah Farley. A great team run into the circle with many attempts at goal finally sneaking past the goal line off Heidi Perry’s stick. Unfortunately, Euroa answered to win the game 2-1. Goals to Heidi: 1.
Umpire best and fairest votes to: Sarah Farley 3, Siobhan Higgins 2, Bec Littler 1.
B-men v Mooroopna
Benalla’s B-men’s game also showcased the juniors, with newcomer Liam Tolley scoring a goal! Angus and Noah gained umpires best and fairest votes for their fair play and great positioning on the wings. Ollie added speed, Xavier reliably positioned well, and Liam’s junior teammate Joel Hamill made skilful turnovers. The men pushed Mooroopna hard, with a number of late penalty corners sadly unable to match Mooroopna’s third goal. Goals to Liam: 1; Dave McIntyre: 1.
Umpire best and fairest votes to: Noah Gillies 3, Dave McIntyre 2, Angus Woodward 1.

Table Tennis
Winter season round one
Benalla Table Tennis Club’s winter season kicked off last week, with players looking to beat their standing in the last season as well as keep warm as the temperatures plummet,
In A-grade game one, the Kookaburras’ Steve McCallum and Stephen Mahon came up against the Owls’ Michelle Feldtmann and Gareth Burnell. Stephen Mahon was in brilliant form, beating Michelle and Gareth in their singles matches. The Owls were able to take out the doubles almost too easily and Steve McCallum’s form wasn’t up to holding off Michelle or Gareth, Owls won the night 3-2.
In A-grade game two, Brian Harrington and Pauline Hooper of the Plovers vied for points against Stephen Lane and John Chiswell, the Possums. Stephen was in excellent form as always, however, it didn’t translate to a win in the doubles, and Brian and Pauline were able to take out a singles match each against John, Plovers winning 3-2.
A-grade game three saw the Rosellas’ John Bajada and Christian Squires playing the Taipans’ William Tong and Matt Parkinson. Will and Matt were able to take a singles match each against Christian, but John was too strong for both of them, and the Rosellas also took flight in the doubles, giving them the points, 3-2.
In B-grade game one, the Bullants’ John Spencer and Flynn Mosely were up against the Eagles’ Logan Hyland and Andrew Donaldson. It was not the Eagles’ night, with John and Flynn outclassing their opponents in every match, and giving them the points 5-0, a rare whitewash for the Bullants.
B-grade game two had the Frogs’ Patrick Cornell and Elliott McCallum playing Greg Cornell and Sienna Bajada. The Frogs started strong and stayed that way, winning the first two singles matches and then the doubles, all in two games. It was looking like another whitewash for the Frogs, but Sienna came back from a game down against Patrick, Frogs winning 4-1.
In B-grade game three, the Mozzies’ Geraldine Maloney and Mick Kelly came up against the Numbats’ Chris Seeley and James Pepio. And it was the Mozzies’ night across the board, Geraldine and Mick too strong for their opponents, Mozzies won 5-0.
C-grade game one saw the Crickets’ Colin McFarlane and Perry Warnock against the Doves’ Helen Hyland and Laurence Donaldson. Helen was too strong for Colin and Perry came back from a game down to win against Laurence. But the Doves sealed the victory with a win in the doubles and a decisive victory for Helen in her second singles match, Doves won 3-2.
C-grade game two the Falcons’ Val Kipping and Asher Tobias played the Hawks’ Glenys McGregor and Beth Grant. Apart from a singles win for Val, the Hawks were too strong for their opponents, taking out the doubles and the points for the night, 3-2.
BENALLA WINTER TENNIS
Round four
After a wet weekend teams checked the courts early for round four matches last Monday.
Rain in Terip deemed their courts unplayable and the match with Benalla a washout.
Mansfield Blue was forced to forfeit against Moglonemby before players had left home towns.
Seven Creeks hosted Euroa on their home courts in Euroa and Mansfield Black hosted Mansfield Red for their home match on somewhat soggy synthetic courts.
The sensible decision to use dry balls each set was made.
Seven Creeks Rowena Ellis, Kerry Hewlett, Jill Hayes, and Nicola Enright were right among it against the strong Euroa side getting five games in three of the six sets.
Euroa’s Sue Vaughan, Lyndall Bigland, Julie Harrington, Lyn Johnston, and Mary Dewis combined superbly to take every set for the ladder leader. Lyndall and Julie were emphatic in the final set, winning 8-0.
Euroa won 6-48 to 0-21 and shot ahead on top spot with 39 points.
Mansfield Black’s Liza Karras and Jenny Bell began with confidence and determination against Red’s Karyn Fraser and Carolyn Murray, while Jenny Smith and Di Bergelin began their contest against Mansfield Red only to be struck by injury in the fourth game.
From the sidelines Rhonda Carpenter replaced Smith and the set could continue with Red’s Jo O’Brien and Deb McCormack playing the better tennis. Eventually players warmed up and the contest became an arm-wrestle. Red settled the result winning the tiebreaker 7-3.
When Karyn Fraser and Jo O’Brien found fabulous form in their contest against Liza and Rhonda to win 8-5, Jenny Bell and Di won 8-3 and again the sets were split.
The wind had picked up, the sun began to peek through, and players were having fun, enjoying the opportunity to be on court after all. Players joked, laughed, and applauded great shot making and crafty placement.
Scoring became a challenge in the lengthy final sets, especially when it seemed one player had served twice in a row. Consultation ensued and common sense was the winner. Both sets went Black’s way and the team won 4-44 to 2-27.
On the ladder Black switched places with Seven Creeks to move into fifth spot on 18 points.
Ladder: Euroa 39, Terip 31, Moglonemby 29, Benalla 24, Mansfield Black 18, Seven Creeks 15, Mansfield Red 2, Mansfield Blue 2.
