A popular café in Sydney’s CBD is set to close in a matter of weeks after six years in the brunch business.
The Cuckoo Callay café on Crown Street in Surry Hills is shutting its doors on June 11, the café said in a statement.
“It’s bittersweet to bid farewell to Cuckoo Callay,” co-founder of ESCA Group, Ibrahim Moubadder, said.

“The venue wriggled its way onto Crown Street and brought locals a quirky combo of delicious food and great memories.”
However, the venue plans to bring back some of its “all-time favourite dishes” for customers to enjoy before the café’s closure.
These dishes include their “iconic” MacDaddy, the lemon and white chocolate hotcakes, and their lamb rendang roti tacos.
Moubadder also revealed while the café is set to close its doors, the space will make way for a new Japanese restaurant set to open later in the year.
“We’re so excited to revitalise this space and redefine our presence in Surry Hills, creating an exciting and unique experience that will resonate with our loyal community and the people of Sydney,” he said.
The second Cuckoo Callay café, which is situated in Newtown and opened back in 2013, will remain open.
Meanwhile, a popular Sydney takeaway restaurant has also shut its doors after nearly a decade.
Mr Crackles quickly became a late-night dining institution when it opened on Oxford St in 2013.
The business then expanded to Melbourne’s CBD with the opening of a Bourke St store in 2018.
While the Sydney venue remained popular for late-night takeaway, it has suddenly closed — leaving many hungry Harbour City locals devastated.
